Introduction
I'm beginning to assemble a list of handy tips for use on theFrisky.com.
So far, what I have is pretty minimal, but it might be of some use to you. If you have any questions or can suggest
other hints, please feel free to email me (_jsw_).
Suggestions for theFrisky.com
It seems to me that the Frisky Community has a lot of really cool people in it. I'd like to see it become easier to keep and develop that sense of community -
I think that an effort to enable that would help us as well as contribute to the site's bottom line. I've started a list of a few things I'd like to see theFrisky implement:
- The Private Message setup should be easier to access. Right now, it's quite a few clicks away, and there's no obvious indicator that you have PMs waiting for you (besides the email alert, which can get lost in a bunch of other theFrisky emails).
- A forum (alluded to on the About page, but apparently non-existent since the link redirects to the home page).
- Possibly some sort of chat box or similar, either in addition to or instead of the forums.
- An official description of formatting in comments (I've listed what I've discovered below).
- The ability to preview and/or edit comments.
- Resizing the emoticons so adding them in comments doesn't throw off the line spacing.
- Merchandise!! Shirts, hats, whatever. Just something. Please.
Ignoring members
Sometimes, certain members get on your nerves. To ignore them, simply click here,
then click the Add Member button, then enter their member name and click "OK". Yes, it could be easier, but it works. And you can always
go back to the same link, click the checkbox next to a member's name, and delete them from your ignore list, thus enabling their comments
again in your view.
Links in comments
You can add links to other pages within comments by using the format "<a href="http://your.link.com">text</a>".
For example, if you type (in the comment box):
I like to surf <a href="http://www.thefrisky.com">theFrisky</a>.
what will show up once you submit your comment is:
I like to surf theFrisky.
Stylized text in comments
I've found that a few style tags work within comments, enabling you to use
italicized, bold, italicized bold, strikethrough, underlined, and monospaced text as you wish:
- For italicized text, put the words between "<i>" and "</i>" or "<em>" and "</em>" tags.
- For bold text, put the words between "<b>" and "</b>" tags.
- For italicized bold text, put the words between "<i><b>" and "</b> </i>" tag pairs.
- For
strikethrough text, put the words between "<del>" and "</del>" tags.
- For underlined text, put the words between "<ins>" and "</ins>" tags.
- For
monospaced text, put the words between "<code>" and "</code>" tags.
For example, if you type (in the comment box):
I do <i>not</i> agree with <b>that</b>.
what will show up once you submit your comment is:
I do not agree with that.
Or, if you type (in the comment box):
<i>I</i> do <i><b>not</b></i> agree with that <del>nonsense</del> comment.
what will show up once you submit your comment is:
I do not agree with that nonsense comment.
Frisky emoticons
Here are, as far as I know, all of the accepted theFrisky emoticons as well as the code you use when you write a comment.
For example, if you type (in the comment box):
Yeah, sure. ;-)
what will show up once you submit your comment is:
Yeah, sure.
NOTE: I've expanded the size of the images in the table to make them easier to see. They'll be smaller on screen when you use them.
